What do I need to do before my course?
Preparation is good practice for all aspects of life; it would be good practice to read information on our website to familiarise yourself with our work. Any reading on early years will help your knowledge.
Is there course work?
Yes. You are required to provide a project in the form of either an;
2000 Word Count
- Power Point
3000 Word Equivalent
You will demonstrate your ability to research and understand your chosen topic of choice. This will be discussed in detail on your academy day.
Is the certification process recognised?
Yes. By completing our course, you will receive a nationally recognised certification, certified by Sensory Time UK and The CPD Certification Service. The first aid course you must complete is a national recognised certification.
Is the course accredited?
Accredited CPD training means the learning activity has reached the compliance’s of Continuing Professional Development standards and benchmarks. The learning value has been scrutinised to ensure integrity and quality. The CPD Certification Service provides recognised independent CPD accreditation compatible with global CPD requirements.
Our courses are accredited by the Children’s Activities Association.

Can I practice once I have completed my academy days?
Once you have completed your course, first aid training, produced a quality project and exam (multiple choice) you will be able to Practice as a Sensory Time Class Leader; Insurance, DBS and First Aid must be in place FIRST.
Do I have to attend CPD Seminars – Continuing Professional Development is widely recognised as fundamental to the improvement of standards and skills for individuals and their roles.
You will be required to attend at least 1 CPD seminar every 12 months. We hold a conference once a year, along with a yearly award ceremony, this is optional attendance but highly recommended.
How do I complete my DBS application?
On completion of your booking you will be sent an email. In this email, will be information on how to complete you DBS application and what I.D you require. Check and send at your local post office is recommended. We will help you through this process.
Can I bring my child(ren)?
No. Our courses are an intensive, focused learning environment. Your complete attention needs to be on your learning. We would not want any distractions; for example, attending to your child when your tutor is covering the IMPORTANCE of SAFETY!
This course must have complete commitment and attention for you to successfully pass our criteria, and work in the community with families.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring with you a pen and note book. You will be given a course handbook which allows room for notes.
Please bring with you anything you know that will help you in your learning environment; glasses, cushion, reading aid, iPad, laptop etc.
What should I wear?
Please choose an attire that you will be comfortable in. Please wear sensible and comfortable footwear.
Can I take photos or Videos?
This would be at the tutor’s discretion, and solely for YOUR use only. You would be required to fill out a confidentiality form.
Are there any additional fees?
Conferences and Seminars incur additional fees.
All STU practitioners must pay a fee of £300 per annum. This covers marketing, advertising, promotional material, webpage, on-going support 7 days week and access to exclusive offers, discounts, conferences and seminars*
Can I run my own activities/groups?
STU Academy qualifies you as an individual to deliver Sensory Time classes. CPD accredits the STU Academy and it’s contents. It does not accredit you to deliver any alternative activities or groups.
